Jumping From the Wagon?

For the last three years, it has been depressing to call yourself a fan of Husky football. Tyrone Willingham led disappointing career as head coach with an even greater disappointing record.

Being a student at the University of Washington, I could have cared less to spend over $100 for season tickets and sacrifice at least seven Saturdays to watch the Dawgs give Pac-10 and other teams a “free pass” each week.

This year, I thought different. With a new coach, a glimmer of hope shined through. Steve Sarkisian proved himself worthy as the Offensive Coordinator at USC and we believed he could turn our program around. I picked up my season tickets, my “Bark for Sark” t-shirt, and started to become a loyal fan.

This loyalty paid off as the Huskies played admirably against LSU, beat Idaho like a doormat, and pulled one of the biggest upsets of Husky history with a win against USC.

Let’s pause and remember this moment:

Like hundreds, if not thousands, of other Husky fans, I stormed the field, took pics of friends on the turf, and said hi to Mom on the ESPN cameras. I wore that Jake Locker jersey around town proudly and got hoorays from other adoring fans as if we were best friends. It was a proud day to call yourself a Husky fan.

But am I safe to wear that jersey again?

If you haven’t heard, the Huskies just got pounded by Stanford in a 34-14 tromp. The Huskies can say goodbye to their AP TOP25 Ranking (the first Top 25 they’ve had in six years). Back to a 2-2 record, the Huskies have a full season ahead of them. There are still many games left to play. Now we ask, how will the Huskies rebound from such a blowout?

And as for us as fans, do we jump off the band wagon or hold on with a death grip?

You can decide for yourself…but I shout, ‘Go Purple. Be Gold.’
