Creating a Website

You want to create a website, but you don’t know how.
HTML and CSS are a foreign language and you don’t know the first thing about coding, hosting, or FTP.

Well, you should stop reading this post now.

Actually, that’s a lie. It’s much easier than it appears to be. These days, you can create a website that looks somewhat decent and actually serves a purpose in under an hour or two.

Where to begin?

Well, if you want the easy way, create a site through WordPress, Tumblr, or Weebly. These sites provides free hosting and a vast array of options for someone who has no clue what they are doing. If you just want to blog or post pictures and talk about them, then these sites are a great place to begin.

What if I want more and I actually want it to look good?

Well, WordPress is the next step up. Ok, you’re probably thinking, “Didn’t he just mention WordPress as an easy way?” And yes I did. The difference is that WordPress.com is for people who just want to blog, want free hosting, and don’t know how to do anything. WordPress.org allows you to upload themes, customize your site, and optimize the use of plug-ins.

I would recommend buying a domain (ie kylecwillis.com) via Media Temple. They provide very reliable hosting for WordPress. Or you can look into dedicated hosting providers like Blue Host, Dream Host, or GoDaddy.  All four of these host providers offer 1-click install of your WordPress blog. Once it is installed, designing and creating a blog is very easy!

A great site for high-quality, professional themes at a HUGE discount is Elegant Themes.

They offer almost 20 different themes, dedicated support, and a year of updates, releases, and design support for only $20! That means you can download 20 professional, premium themes for a buck each! In the WordPress world, that is unheard of!

I am not sure how long this deal will last, so I recommend buying a subscription ASAP.
