I’m Rooting for You!

On Sunday, Pastor Norm Willis, my father and the senior pastor of Christ Church Kirkland, shared a message about honoring and esteeming people with our words and actions. The message was very practical as he took time to honor members in the church for their service, dedication, and relationship. If you haven’t listened to the message yet, I’d encourage you go to that NOW by clicking here!

Walking away from the service, I realized how much I LOVE hearing words of encouragement and compliments. Meaningful words is one of my love languages so I thrive on that in work, in relationships, in any aspect of life. I realized something though: I am not very good and esteeming other people and highlighting what it is that I love in others without a desire to receive something in return. Sure, I can tell you I like your outfit or that you performed well in some spectacle, but when was the last time I took a moment to tell you, yes, you, the one reading this line right now, how I appreciate you or how I notice what God is doing in your life and so grateful to be a part of it.

I want to be your #1 Fan. I want to be your best encourager. Not for what I can get in return. Not for recognition or merit, but simply because I value you. I love being in relationship with you. Even if you just found this link through a friend and we’ve never met, you deserve a fan club and I wanna be its president. So, I am pulling out the foam finger with your name on it. I’m in your cheering section and want you to know that I will be mindful to encourage you, to be there for you, to serve you and show you what Christ’s love looks like. I can’t promise perfection, but I can tell you I am a work in progress and don’t plan on quitting anytime soon.
