Marketing’s Effect On the Church

Christ’s Great Commission takes marketing’s affect in the church and empowers each member to be a voice. In Mark 16:15, Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” Remember that the gospel was the church’s product? Preaching is a form of promotion. The Great Commission starts within the church, but it is the responsibility of every believer to share the gospel in his or her own way. The vehicle to educate and train the believer is the church, but the gospel was never intended to stay within the church.
The way a church markets is often how their members will share the gospel. TV evangelists breed more TV evangelists. Jesus had twelve disciples. He asked Peter, one of His disciples, what the people said about Him, but only to serve a point about what Peter thought of Him. So, it is critical that the church have a proper foundation in their marketing before they send people out because every member is like a walking billboard of that church. Their testimony is a megaphone of what is going on at your church.
When visitors come into your church for the first time and you ask, “How did you hear about us?” What do you want their answer to be? If 80% of new visitors come to church for the first time through the invite of a friend, it is crucial that current members understand how to effectively represent your church. They are your marketers. How do you want them to market your church?
